Ancient
|
A humanoid race, referred to as "Ancients" in the Milky Way Galaxy, but are also known as Lanteans or Ancestors in the Pegasus Galaxy. They refer to themselves as Alterans in their home galaxy, and sometimes call themselves Anqueetas in their language. They are one of the most advanced races known to have existed, having evolved for millions of years prior to the present day and reaching their level of technology long before humanity evolved on Earth. They are best known as the builders of Stargates, the giant ring shaped protals commonly used by Earth based humans to travel and explore the universe. The Ancients are in the same race as the Ori, and they are seen as responsible for both the emergence of the Wraith and the Asurans. |

ATA gene |
A genome that occurs naturally in all Ancients, due to genetic inheritance, a small percentage of humans possess this gene. The function of this gene is to allow them to not only ascend fully, but their physiology is so advanced, a human with this gene could potentially be immune to diseases the likes of which man has never seen. This gene can also be genetically modified to similar results. Much of Ancient technology requires this gene to be present so that not anyone can activate it. Once active, however, anyone, even people without this gene, can activate and use the technology. |

Ascension |
Ascension is a process by which sufficiently-evovled sentient beings may shed their physical bodies and live eternally as pure energy on a higher plane of existence full of knowledge and power. It is mental, spiritual or evolutionary enlightenment as a direct result of achieving a certain level of wisdom and self-knowledge. Ascension can happen in one of two ways: Evolutionary or Spiritually. Ascension can happen when a human evolves the ability to use approximately 90% of their brain capacity. The Ancients were able to do this without the aid of technology. They however developed the DNA Resequencer, a device capable of making humans so advanced they could preform telepathy, telekinesis, superhuman senses, speed, strength, precognition, perfect health, the ability to self heal rapidly, the power to heal by self touch, and the ablility to use several parts of their minds and fully focus on something. Spiritual Ascension can occur through meditation when one is pure of spirit. |

Atlantis |
The City of Atlantis is on the planet Lantea the home of the Ancients, was built millions of years ago by the most advanced race in the universe, The Ancients. Five to ten million years ago, due to a plague in the Milky Way Galaxy, they were forced to flee to a planet in the Pegasus Galaxy and there they seeded life on hundreds of worlds as they had done in the Milky Way. After encountering the Wraith, and going to war with them for more than one hundred years, the Ancients ultimately lost and were forced to submerge the city beneath Lantea's Ocean, which is ultimately the source of the Greek Myth. |

Asuran | A species that bear a resemblance to human-form of the Replicators. Were made of self-replicating nanites created by the Ancients on the planet of Asuras as a weapon against the Wraith.
The Ancients programmed the Asurans with a agression that rivaled that of the Wraith, but when they determined that the Asurians could never become a weapon they desire the Ancients destroyed their experiments and erased all refrences to it from their database. A few of these nano-bots survived and replicated and rebuilt their empire to that of a rival to the ancients.

Chimera |
Chimera is a code name of Earth's attempt at replicating holographic technology through the use of Asgard science. The developement of the project was made to dissuade beliefs by certain individuals that 'aliens' were present on Earth. The technology was used to explain the appearence of an Asgard clone on Earth and was later revealed that it was used more extensively. |

| DEFINITION
| | Destiny | A ship in the ancient fleet constructed millions of years before atlantis. The ancients launched the automated ship millions of years ago to seed Stargates throughout many galaxies, with a second ship planned to follow it up and explore those planets. However, after beginning this process, they began concentrating on ascension and due to this preoccupation, they never followed through on this plan. Earth discovered that the Stargate's mysterious ninth chevron can be utilized to gate directly to the Destiny, opening up literally the whole universe to explore, but because the ship is on a programmed course, the team discovered they have no way back to Earth. |

Dialing Computer |
In the absence of a functioning Dial Home Device, the U.S. Air Force was forced to construct their own sytem to dial the Stargate. This system uses several motors to move physically more the inner ring of the stargate in order to dial the desired address. |
FTL Drive |
Stands for 'Faster than Light' drive. The destiny uses this drive to travel from solar system to solar system. |

There is at least one known Kino aboard the Destiny and it is being used by the new Destiny crew. It's Function is listed as advanced reconaissance. |

Ori |
Belonging to the same race as the Ancients, they once lived in harmony until the Ori ascended as well. They were bent on destroying the Ancients once and for all. The Ori were intent on hoarding their energy that they derived from mortal worshippers, rather than take new ascendants. The Ori used their power to sap energy and create their own second evolution and galaxy to attack the Ancients. The Ancients, however, chose to hide their second evolution (Tau'ri) and to protect them from being forced into religious servitude of the Ori. The central icon of Ori religion is fire. |

Personal Shield | A palm-sized shield generator worn by a person that projects a deffensive barrier. It deffects any objects propelled at it, and has inertial dampeners. This particular shield is activated by the ATA gene, and controlled by the users mind, though the user must be trained in mind-control to overide conscious desires in the use of the device.

| Ring Transporter
| Originally designed by the Ancients, but later used by the Goa'uld and the Tok'ra. All matter inside the rings dematerialized and transported via matter stream to another set of rings in a different location where it is then rematerialized. The five or eight ringslevitate slightly off the ground and stack on top of each other during the operation. Each ring transporter platform weighs 12.9 tons, but what coponents are used in the "platforms" is unkown. The rings are half the diameter of the stargate and function under similar principles.

Known as the Astria Porta in Ancient, and Chappa'ai in Goa'uld are a series of devices built by ancients that can create artificial wormholes between distant worlds. The Stargates are often considered to be the ancient's greatest creation and so the ancients are often called "gate builders". The Ancients, the Nox, the Asurans and the Ori are the only races known to have built stargates. |
Shields | Were used by the Ancients abourd their ships and outposts. Their shileds prove to be almost impenatrable, as long as there is sufficient power supply to maintain it. In contrast to other races/species shields such as the Goa'uld and Asgard, are weakend by outside forces, like enemy fire and natural phenomena, causing them to fail or diminish in capacity rather quickly in extreme cases of stress. There are many types of shields such as :
- Aurora-Class Shields
- Atlantis' Shield
- Personal Shield
- Stargate Shield
- Puddle Jumper Shield
| | Tau'ri | The term used by the inhabitants of the Milky Way to refer to Earth and human beings from earth. The word means "First Ones" or "those from the first world" in Goa'uld in the sense that human life began on Earth. While it originally applied to all human beingsd in the Milky Way, the term has come to apply specifically to humans who currently live on Earth as the Stargate Program progressed. Tau'ri became known as Atlanteans who came to Earth and which our species is directly descended from. | Stargate Shield
| Much like the Iris on the Earth Gate, Atlantis' Stargate is protected and can be activated by the touch of a button to prevent anthing from materializing past the event horizon. Unlike the iris it is transparent but one can see the supressed "Kawoosh" and "impact" of objects prevented from materializing. The shield has yet to be breached by anything, however Dr. McKay put a "back-door" code into the control system so it can be de-activated off world by him.

| | ZPM {zero point module} | Incredibly long lived power source of great magnitude capable of powering entire cities and intergalactic spacecraft for thousands of years, making it the cleanest and most powerful energy source in the known universe. It's massive energy is derived from quantum foam (subatomic wormholes constantly opening and closing and fading in and out of subspace).
ZPM are crystal based, and it is known that Stargates are powered by this type of module and it is assumed that the Destiny is also powered that way. |
