[Untitled]STARGATE UNIVERSE PILOT SYNOPSIS
A team of scientists and soldiers from the Icarus Base, are forced to evacuate their secret base and end up on the failing ancient spaceship Destiny in the farthest part of the universe, with no idea how to get home.

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's Ninth Chevron, a team of explorers led by Dr. Nicholas Rush and Colonel Everett Young travel to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by the Ancients millions of years ago, at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment to seed galaxies with Stargates. They had plans for a second ship that would follolw it up and explore those planets. This plan was set in motion, but it was abandoned
when the Ancients began concentrating on ascension.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers they are trapped on the ship, unable to change the programmed mission, or return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny. They will encounter new races, new technology and new enemies, as the runaway ship takes them to the far ends of the universe.

SG-1 worked well because of the fanbase, because of the original concept, and the wonderful team of writers working with such a fantastic story such as this. Cue the spin-off SGA - working within an idea in the original series - fans are nervous about a new cast and story. And yet, SUCCESS! Perhaps it was because of the character similarities that really payed off (Teal'c=Ronon, for instance, with some difference, but a LOT of similarities) or the literal worlds of possibilities, but the franchise has gripped us since '94 - the emergence of the movie that started it all. They've done well so far.

The more I think about it, the more I feel convinced that it can be done, despite a completely skeptical fan base to please and a confined setting as opposed to the past. The idea sounds like an "edge of your seat" thrill, but as I feel like I must repeat - we're talking about an idea that can go in a thousand directions. The gate opens - the world is no longer what we knew. And what now? Excitement! I feel that the only downfall may be an incredibly short run in store... but... I just can't help but be a little hopeful =3

I also feel comforted when I see that Jack and Daniel and Sam will all make a guest appearance... It's as if they give a sort of approval to the upcoming series by partaking in it.

But, well... we've got until October until we will truly know! <3

I'm not sure this concept will work well.

Much like the only Start Trek to fail - Deep Space 9 - keeping people stuck in one spot never works.

I'm not sure the character base works well either. The women chosen so far are good actresses, good looking and have ok parts. The men though, with the exception of Lou Diamond Phillips don't have a high 'hotness' rating, so their characters need to really be well worked. I'm just not seeing it... still hoping though...

Last, but not even remotely least, the lack of women in good roles continues... I find that really annoying. Why do more than 60% of all the leads have to be dominated by men? Women watch too! Grrrr....
